With the simple idea of taking Brazilian street art out of its natural context and applying it to something new comes “The Graffiti Project”. Beginning in May, the mass scale art collaboration involving Brazilian artists Os Gemeos, Nina and Nunca - alongside Scottish talent - embraced the challenge of transforming the dull yet historic south walls of Scotland’s Kelburn Castle into a bright and bold work of art.
Throughout the project (now in its third week) the artists - living together in the castle - have had time to share and explore new ideas while documenting the entire process through various forms of media. Applying graffiti to a historic landmark of this nature is wonderful in our eyes: It challenges several preconceived notions regarding street art’s value. By applying graffiti to a priceless piece of history, a critic’s perception of high vs. kitsch art is challenged. More images and a video documenting recent progress can be viewed after the jump.
