Retrosuperfuture…..Really?

June 5, 2007

Sean Beolchini and the Beckerman brothers, the creators of Italy’s Pig Magazine, are the latest to reproduce the classic Ray Ban Wayfarer and call it their own.

The first and only design from the new line of shades, Retrosuperfuture, is the Super Retro (above) quoted by Caliroots as: “inspired from the classic Wayfarer.” In terms of design, “inspired” typically means taking the best features of someone else’s model and incorporating it into something new - not simply reproducing the entire design in 80’s pastels.

Priced at $130 US, these fakes with funky colors sell for just as much as the originals. However, in a couple months when people realize that the nerdy neo-rave look is for ninnies, those who copped the originals will still look fresh. When will designers learn that turning timeless classics neon is so played?
