The Top 10 Sneaker Collaboration Commandments

June 8, 2007

In response to the barrage of low quality, poorly designed and highly un-original sneaker collabos comes The Ten Sneaker Collaboration Commandments from Sneaker Freaker.

In the words of Gary Warnett, ” Collaborations. Everyone’s at it – stores, brands, websites, blogs, magazines, toy companies, musicians and pretty much anyone who wants to get involved. The more the merrier! Shit, even your aged parents are probably pissing around on Photoshop right now, engaging in heated debate about the merits of nubuck and wondering aloud whether that’s a little too much 3M near the heel.”

The “Thou Shall And Thou Shall Not Guide To Designing Sneakers” includes cardinal rules like: “Thou shalt take more than five minutes to design the product; Thou shalt consider the materials as well as the colors,” and my favorite, “Thou shalt endeavor to create something fresh.”

The Commandments are a witty and well-articulated set of principals for any young designer stepping up to the sneaker game. Hopefully, words of wisdom like these result in all this collaboration business being put to rest, as the whole concept is no longer interesting or special.
