Hirst’s Diamond Skull Gets Culture Jammed

July 15, 2007

Not to long ago, Damien Hirst unveiled his latest creation: a skull coated with more than 8,000 world-class diamonds. At $100 million US, the blinged out skull is the most expensive piece of contemporary artwork ever made. In protest of the skull’s highly popularized exhibition at London’s swanky White Cube Gallery, an artist named Laura placed a replica of the skull bejeweled with over 6000 Swarovski crystals outside the gallery in the late hours of the night on top of a pile of trash. A hilarious statement and an excellent comment on perceived value considering the original has yet to sell.
