Enjoy thought provoking and seriously tripped out films? If so, familiarize yourself with Altered States (circa 1980). In the film, Harvard scientist Eddie Jessup believes that other states of consciousness that humans experience are just as real as what we call everyday reality. He explores these states by locking himself in a sensory deprivation chamber while under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs. Obsessed with discovering the origin of life through these psychedelic trips, Jessup undergoes biological de-evolution into earlier forms of life. Towards the end of his experiences he reduces himself and state of consciousness down to amoeba form… just watch the film!
