Aerosol Interiors

October 28, 2007

As artist-designed interiors gain popularity among Vancouver’s more aesthetically minded residents, it’s only natural that the culture would eventually give birth to some form of rogue competition.

Enter Graham Oatman. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Oatman relocated to Vancouver after he kerouac’d his way across the continental United States, ultimately choosing Vancity as the place to hang his hat because of its cool weather, fresh digs and freedom-loving lifestyle.

“When I first arrived, I was just amazed that so few people were doing aerosol here. It’s blowing up in certain neighborhoods throughout SF and LA, but I guess it hasn’t really hit Canada yet,” says Oatman, who has been cautiously selective of his projects thus far, opting to design for clients who have a unique vision for their space rather than conforming to basic formulas.

Nice piece man, really feeling the colours. I should send you pics of the piece I did on my wall. I’d like to see more of his work.

BTW what did you guys post that got deleted on portfolio.com’s Bape article?

Hey Ryan,

Hows it going bro. Yeah totally send your pics to me, that sounds cool. As for what Doug posted about Bape…not sure, but it was honest enough for it to get removed by portfolio.

basically I commented on how Bape is already culturally bankrupt in Japan. It’s seen as a bit of a joke, ultra-pop schtick for silly teenagers. So when Nigo says stuff like:

“Bape needs become so big that nobody even remembers that Bape is a Japanese label”

he really means it, because if Bape’s innovative appeal is reliant on its Japanese roots, it’s already dead.

haha i love that hes posing with a fixie/singlespeed. Classic. Maybe he should be wearing high-tops to make Oatman even more of a walking caricature… oh wait there they are in the background.
