Like other metropolitan cities, Green architecture is taking Montréal by storm. In fact, by 2010 the city will be home to Canada’s greenest building: the Maison du développement durable (Sustainable Development House).
Designed to serve as headquarters for local environmental organizations, the structure will be one of the most sustainable buildings on the planet. The 28.5 million, 5,700 square-meter project will be constructed out of recycled industrial containers, will feature wall gardens to filter and clean the indoor air, and in the cold winters, the building will be heated using geothermal energy.
Although Vancouverites may not like to admit it, Montréal, one of the largest French-speaking cities in the world, is evolving into Canada’s most desirable city to live in. Along with it’s green initiatives, Montréal’s thriving arts scene, eclectic architecture, shopping, nightlife and low cost of living has been attracting immigrants as well as substantial business investment from around the globe.
