“The architect behind New York’s Freedom Tower - built on the former site of the World Trade Centre - has announced that it is to construct what promises to be the world’s greenest office building,” the Telegraph reports.
Located in Gennevilliers, an outlying district of Paris, the proposed building titled “Energy Plus” will be the first building in the world to consume no energy other than what it generates for itself.
Its solar panel covered roof will produce more than enough energy to power the entire structure, eliminating the need for traditional grid power. Rather than use an air conditioner, a unique cooling system will draw cold water from the river Seine and pump it through the building. Cutting edge insulation will also be used to reduce the amount of “electricity consumption per square meter of office space per year down to 16 kilowatts, the lowest in the world for a building of its size,” says the Telegraph.
