“The city of Madrid soon plans to add a striking new structure that will “climatically transform” its urban architecture,” Inhabitat reports. Built entirely from recycled materials and completely self-sufficient, “Air Tree”, as it’s called, is designed to better the environment and act as a social gathering spot.

In addition to generating fresh air, its exterior is covered in solar panels that are used to both power the structure itself and generate energy that can be sold back to the local grid. To boot, “Air Tree” is relatively lightweight, making it easy to put up and take down when needed. Ideally, several “Air Trees” would be set up around a major metropolitan area during the summer months to cool down temperatures while generating clean electricity.
