Cyclope Paris: Fixie Bike Culture

March 30, 2008

Despite the influx of hipsters, streetwear aficionados and à la mode youth around the world jumping on the fixed gear bike bandwagon, few cities remain capable of sustaining a profitable fixie-specific shop. With commercial space in Paris costing an arm and a leg, a few young leaders of the scene took it underground (literally) to preserve and promote fixie culture. Cyclope, the city’s only shop dedicated to repairing, building and selling fixed gear bikes, is impossible to find without extremely detailed directions or a guide. It’s located down an alley, through a gate and down a series of steps inside the dark basement of a building in a residential courtyard. Good luck finding the place - but if you do, you will love the bikes inside.

Hey Guys,

In terms of contacting the shop, I had to contact some friends in Paris for the appropriate info. I have updated the post with a link to the shops blog. All appropriate contact info should be there. Also the links to Cyclore’s blog and MySpace as follows:

http://cyclope.over-blog.com/

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=77725572

Phone number: 0607160301

I hope that helps.

I kinda agree, it’s pretty clear that for many of those new users, fixies are more like a new pair or Van’s than a real bike or street culture, then as a fashion it won’t probably last much..future will tell!
