Graffiti In Barcelona

April 17, 2008

Although graffiti culture is alive and well in Paris, artists making their mark on the streets of Barcelona take reclaiming public space to a whole other level. Every nook and cranny of available space is caked with years of murals, wheatpastes, etchings and tags. On doorways and apartment entrances live the faded creations of yesteryear layered-over with slogans and artistic aliases of present day. The city of Barcelona is like a massive public art gallery, and in every direction your eyes wander there looms thick and vibrant mélanges of color, textures, styles, anti-political sentiments and pop-culture tie-ins resulting in a pastiche of creative influence. It’s inspirational and really gets the creative juices flowing.
