San-Zhr Pods

June 2, 2008

Along the coastline of San-Zhr - a small town on the north coast of Taiwan - exists remnants of a brightly colored and futuristic looking hotel/housing development. Little is known about the origins of the pod-like buildings other than the government commissioned the project, there’s no named architect, and they’re thought to have been built in the ’60s.

Supposedly, during construction freak accidents routinely occurred which resulted in the deaths of several workers. As word of the accidents spread, no one wanted to visit the development and the project was shut down.

To this day, the spirits of the workers who died there are said to haunt the complex and surrounding area. San-Zhr Pod Village remains in its unfinished state and superstitions about ghosts prevent locals from going anywhere near it.

Photographer Craig Ferguson’s snaps of the eerie, dystopian and post-apocalyptic development are nothing short of beautiful.

The construction ended because the construction company went bankrupt during the oil crisis in the 80s.

Nice shots.

Some people are very dismissive of other people’s ’superstitions’and choose to make light of them to their own peril.

Superstitions may be laughable to some, but arrogance is just downright sad.
